GRAMMAR SCHOOL OF JURIJ VEGE IDRIJA

Grammar school of Jurij Vege Idrija is a school with a long tradition since it was founded in 1901. We offer three programmes: grammar school, secondary school for mechanical technician and vocational school of mechatronic operator.

The school is located in a beautiful UNESCO town Idrija, which is 2 hours drive from Venice airport and 1 hour drive from Ljubljana Airport. Visitors love our countryside, the 2nd oldest Mercury mine in the world and our local specialty called žlikrofi.

Most of around 350 students (aged 15 – 19) commute to school every day and love to participate in different national and international projects and activities. In 2008 was the school completely renovated and a new gym was constructed.  So now there is top-quality technical equipment in every classroom, a lab for conducting experiments and an enlarged kitchen and dining room ensuring the students to have the possibility of getting a warm meal. About 30 teachers seek to create a learning environment that encourages the development of inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who will help create a more peaceful world and cherish respect and compassion for other people, their values and culture. We aim to develop critical thinking and creativity, so that the students can become active, thoughtful and responsible world citizens. Aiming to help students develop all their potentials we engage with institutions from our local community, Slovenia and abroad. We promote a safe, orderly, caring and supportive environment as we believe that each student’s self- esteem is fostered by positive relationship with students and staff. We recognize that each student is an individual, with individual needs, potentials and expectations. We therefore emphasize the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of each student.
